You can use EFT (Emotional Freedom Therapy) at home for fast relief. In the therapist's room, it can work wonders.
EFT — The Strange Therapy
EFT (“Emotional Freedom Technique”) is probably one of the strangest therapies I’ve ever come across. Had I not seen with my own eyes how amazingly well it works, I’d have dismissed it as quackery.
However, not only have thousands of people benefited from it, but also researchers have measured the brain before and after EFT treatment and seen the changes.
But the thing I like most about EFT is that it’s so simple that I can show my clients how to use it for themselves at home.
The History
Thought-Field Therapy (TFT)
A few years ago, Dr Roger Callahan was treating a woman with a severe water phobia. Frustrated at the lack of progress, Dr Callahan investigated a number of different ways to approach this. Then, one day, he suddenly cured her, quite unexpectedly and to his own surprise.
Dr Callahan had just hit on a new discovery!
From this discovery, he developed a method that he called Thought Field Therapy (TFT). It’s quite complex, but relatively easy to learn.
Growing up…
One of Dr Callahan’s earlier students was a businessman and minister, Gary Craig, who had trained as an engineer.
Gary applied his engineering mind to TFT and steadily simplified it. He also trained in other methods (such as NLP) to enhance its effectiveness.
The result was something that he called Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT).
Over the years, Craig has continued to refine, improve and simplify EFT.
What EFT Looks Like
EFT looks weird.
To do it, you tap your body on certain acupressure points, usually saying certain phrases and words. It may include eye movements (matching certain EMDR patterns). Together with NLP, it can make an amazing therapy.
After tremendous experimentation, which Gary’s engineering mind encourages, practitioners have found that EFT also works (when done correctly) with children, infants, and even animals.
The Speedy Therapy
EFT can be fast.
For example, I had a client come in for certain issues, and one of them was extreme jealousy of his wife. Although he realised he was being irrational, he just couldn’t let his wife go out with her friends.
We spent just one minute using EFT, and to both of our astonishment, the jealousy was gone!
But, that's quite unusual. It normally takes longer.
EFT can also be relatively slow. To give up smoking, for example, it may take several sessions (depending on a number of factors).
However, compared to other “conventional” therapies, EFT can seem fast indeed, for example for treating PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder).
Despite its name, Emotional Freedom Technique, it also has great success with many physical symptoms — specifically when emotional anxiety affects those symptoms. Examples have included migraines, sinus problems and back pain.
You can also use EFT to make significant improvements to sports performance.
The Home Therapy
Whether EFT is fast or slow, it makes a wonderful home therapy. Once you’ve learned how to do it by yourself, you can “take it home” and use it whenever and wherever you are.
Although not perfect when used at home, it can help quickly neutralise anxiety. When used regularly, EFT gives long-term benefits.
Giving Up…
EFT also gives a fast any-time boost to people trying to get over drug addiction (including cigarettes, alcohol and chocolate!).
