Ways to Stop Smoking
Research has shown that the most successful intervention in giving up smoking is a heart attack.
The next-most successful intervention is hypnotherapy.
In fact, the most successful way to stop smoking is by a combination of methods. Obviously, I do not recommend waiting until you get a heart attack (or any other medical problem). Instead, wouldn't it be better to address the smoking problem right up front, with a mix of methods?
Hypnotherapy, and…?
If hypnotherapy is so successful, why use anything else?
Well, while some people find that hypnotherapy by itself is all that they need, other people find that they need an extra boost. What other things can you do to boost this?
I've found that it helps to use not only hypnotherapy, but also:
- Self-hypnosis, which helps you take control of so many aspects of your life (not just smoking). When you're in control of your life, smoking seems somehow silly, and therefore easier to stop.
- Some NLP, which cements in a lot of the changes that the hypnotherapy creates.
- Some education about how smoking gets you addicted, so you understand how nicotine gets you addicted and keeps you addicted.
- EFT, which is brilliant for those "emergency" situations where you feel that you just can't resist a cigarette.
- It also helps to have the support of friends and family, and a support group if you like group support.
Of course, your doctor will fully support you to stop smoking – although there's not much that the doctor can do, as nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) reportedly has a low success rate.
Smoking Cessation

Some smokers complain that they no longer have the freedom to smoke as they used to, as certain countries have banned smoking in public areas.
But, if you think about it, it's not that they're really suffering because they don't have the freedom to smoke. It's the freedom to not smoke that smokers don't have. Because, if you're addicted, that's your problem: You don't have that freedom. You're not free to make your own choice.
The choice to let your last cigarette burn out. Unwanted, unused, and unable to tempt you any further.
